Family Fun RV – RV Tailgating Tips
It's about that time... Whether parked in the driveway or at the parking lot of the game, football season is a great time to extend the enjoyment quotient of your RV. Inviting an RV along to a tailgating party can make the whole event more comfortable, but it can also be stressful having a large group of novice users all up in your business. Head off some of the questions and congestion at the pass with these tips below, so you can spend more time enjoying the game!
Bathroom Instructions
People unfamiliar with RV operations might not know to be conservative with water usage & greywater space, or how your RV toilet works. Provide signage inside the bathroom and on the outside of the bathroom door, to streamline communication.
Outdoor Handwashing/Sanitation
A simple outdoor handwashing station can reduce foot traffic inside the RV and minimize water usage. This sanitization station can be as simple as a towel & soap hung near an outside shower nozzle or campsite water spigot. -Or your setup can be a table with paper towels, soap & sanitizer, garbage bin for the paper towels (for the fire later) and suction-cupped mirror to the RV. Make the station as elaborate or as simple as you want - as long as people can wash off that bbq sauce, it's doing the trick!
Charging Station
Provide a clearly-marked outdoor charging station with small table, roll of tape and pen (so people can mark their phones), and an outlet with a couple of common phone cords. Not only will this minimize guests asking if there's a place they can charge their phones, but it will also help to keep guests outside of the RV.
Paper Cups & Plates
If you don't ask guests to bring their own cups (which works well because they recognize their own throughout the party, and take them home for washing) - then have a stack of paper plates, cups, and marker so guests use cups that can later be burned in a campfire or easily recycled.
Decorations
With an RV you have SO many more fun surfaces to hang decorations from! Remember that suction cups and command strips are your friends - and be sure those awning extensions have lights or streamers on them.
Dish-Free Bites
Serve as many cutlery-free and dish-free bites as possible. Hot dogs, burgers, meatballs, ribs can all be cooked ahead of time and kept warm in foil serving trays -or- they can stay warm together in a crock pot on a table outside of the RV with their various toppings. Steakhouse salad kabobs & grilled fruit kabobs can be prepared ahead of time and work great for Covid-friendly tailgating.
Pie-Irons Are Fun and Convenient
If you'll have a campfire available, hot apple pie-iron turnovers, pepperoni pizza pie-iron turnovers, chili/cheese/white bread turnovers, ham & cheese, s'mores foil packets - ingredients can all be on a table for the younger guests to make their own delicious creations.
Seating
Ask guests to bring their own seating but just in case, have more chairs than you need and a few extra blankets.
Flash Lights
Have a few extra flash lights on hand for the wanderers in your group.
Covid-Conscious
Place a small note on the table to remind guests to scoop dip onto their plates, rather than chip-dipping from the bowl. It seems obvious but when we're having fun and socializing, sometimes we all forget.
